RUN THE WALKS has been organised by two local charities to celebrate the town as well as raising funds. Although it is hoped that many runners will support these two charities, everyone who takes part is welcome to raise sponsorship money for any good cause they choose.
Newmarket Open Door (regd. Charity 1070554) provides vulnerable local people with housing and training, and runs a charity superstore, a foodbank, and the local recycling centre.
John Durrant, general manager of Newmarket Open Door, the charity which provides help and support for homeless young people, said: “I was driving past the horse walks one day and I just thought how special it would be if we could somehow involve them in a community event that could become an annual town feature”.
The Racing Centre (regd. Charity 1107833) is a community hub for the racing industry and local residents, and includes the Racefit Gym, a specialist fitness and rehabilitation clinic open to all.
RUN THE WALKS will be staged on Sunday, September 27, and will start on the Heath (near Station Road) and end on The Severals.
There will be a 5K event, as well as a Family Fun Run on The Severals.
